The OG

Written May 2020. Before the app. Before Open House. Before we knew exactly what Queerie would become.

This is our original founding manifesto, preserved in its original voice and lightly cleaned for spelling, punctuation, and broken formatting. It reflects the reason Queerie began, not a product specification or safety policy.

The world has changed. The reason still stands.

queerie.manifesto / May 2020

There is so much pain and suffering all around us. It can only be attributed to our very own doing as a species—human nature and the fact that we have, through the ages, found ways to outdo each other in order to propel ourselves a step ahead no matter who we hurt or the damage we cause to our environment. It may be a natural reaction to a small percentage of tone deaf and disconnected humans, but for the majority, this need is born merely out of survival and the desire to make it in a world where money and material possessions matter most. This vicious cycle is rotting our human experience and it profoundly impacts how we interact with one another, and with our planet.

At queerie, we believe lessening human suffering is paramount to truly awakening a desire for honest change. It starts with us and how we as queer individuals choose to experience the world around us in the face of trying times and failing economic and belief systems.

We are painfully aware that change doesn’t come easy. But listen up darling, we noticed a void around us and this gave us a reason to exist. We unequivocally believe that what truly gives us life is the ability to offer a unique voice, a safe space, true inclusivity, and an outlet for our community, by our community. A community that is far too often in the crossfire of religion, greed, and politics. Our aim is to shift the focus back to us and serve as a beacon of positivity and empowerment. We as queer humans have a unique ability to turn adverse and at times discouraging and abhorrent moments into growing experiences. That’s what gives us all our super powers. Some call it sass. Look it up, gurl! We know it as resilience. Wink!

We take great pride in knowing that we cannot change some of the forces controlling human conditioning but, bitch, we will certainly make sure that this life experience is a smooth and more enjoyable one for us and generations to come. And who knows, perhaps this will be the impetus for human advancement into quuter equitable times. Before we turn this into an after school special, we invite you in to be a proactive voice, and kindly ask that you keep this in mind: queerie is you and we are all queerie. Let’s relentlessly be there for one another to lift each other up.
